Following the first semester course, the purpose of this course is to understand the regional diversity of the Anglo-Saxon society, and the extent to which the culture, society, and the language of the ancient “Britons” survived not only in Wales and north-west England but also in Midland, using the documents in Old English and Latin. We follow Lindy Brady’s Writing the Welsh Borderlands in Anglo-Saxon England (2017) as a main textbook.
In this course we deal with Chapters 4-7 of Lindy Brady’s Writing the Welsh Borderlands in Anglo-Saxon England (2017). Following these chapters, we look at how interesting references are made to the British society within the Anglo-Saxon society within Old English prose and poems.

この授業では、古英語だけでなく、ラテン語資料、部分的に古ウェールズ語の資料も扱います。また、言語だけでなく、アングロサクソン時代の歴史・社会の知識も必要となります。言語だけでなく、歴史、文化に関連する資料も調べて、本テキストの内容を深く理解していきましょう。

「英語学特殊研究4A」に続き、日本語 古英語の話されていたアングロサクソン社会が多様な社会であり、先住民族の古代ブリテン人の社会・文化・言語が、ウェールズ、北西イングランドだけでなく、イングランド中央部（ミッドランド）においても長く息づいていたことを、古英語またはラテン語資料を元に検証し、理解することが目標である。テキストとして、Lindy Brady著 Writing the Welsh Borderlands in Anglo-Saxon England（2017）の後半（4,5,6,7章）を使用する。
