【Course Objectives】

Cultural anthropology is frequently seen as a complex and difficult theory, but it is also a "logical way of thinking about daily life" capable of explaining the "cultural dynamics" of everyday cultural occurrences, trends, social situations, and so on. Individuals and civilizations build their self-images through contact, comparison, and birth with diverse cultures, and it is a constantly evolving process. In this lecture, we will examine the diversity and cultural roots of sensitivities like "Japaneseness," "femininity," and "reading the air," all of which are part of everyday life. Furthermore, we will investigate contemporary topics such as religion, ethnic conflict, and environmental concerns using anthropology, geography, cultural studies, and fieldwork.
◇ Participants will be able to articulate the worldwide community's cultural, societal, historical, and ethnic diversity.
◇ Participants will be able to rationally explain the acts and sensibility of individuals and ethnic groups in the context of history, geography, faith, and life.
◇ Understanding your own senses and sensibilities helps you better comprehend individuals and civilizations.
Each lecture will focus on familiar cultural phenomena in our daily lives (such as music, art, social media, anime, manga, trends, etc.) and aim to investigate the diverse origins of cultural phenomena from an anthropological perspective by unraveling the origins and social meanings behind their formation.

【Course Contents】

The lecture topic will be oriented around three categories: This article explores three themes: culture and sensibility (gender, customs, urban legends, etc.), ethnic groups and communities (ethnic issues, ethnic minorities, Islam, development, etc.), and art and humanity (travel stories, tourism, clothing culture, etc.). It examines the "differences" that we perceive as a logical framework. In addition, the lecture will cover cultural anthropology and field research, utilizing the Silk Road, North Asia, and the Himalayan region as examples of how to do regional studies.
This lecture will follow an active learning structure, with the speaker handing out questions and questionnaires for participating students to complete at the start of the presentation. Students will be requested to discuss and present on the contents of their responses without prior notice. In addition, at the conclusion of each lecture, students will be required to submit a reaction paper. Questions, issues, realizations, discoveries, and so on will be recorded and utilized as questions and answers in the next session.
