【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

日本における民具収集・保存の事例とその歴史的経緯や社会的背景について理解を深め、地域において生活・生業にまつわる資料や遺産を保存・継承していくことの意義やこれからの方法について考えること。また、本授業で扱う事例や議論を通して、自身の研究につながる知見を見出し展開させること。

This course aims to deepen students’ understanding of case studies on the collection and preservation of mingu (folk artefacts or everyday objects) in Japan, as well as their historical development and social contexts. It also encourages students to consider the significance of preserving and passing on materials and cultural heritage related to everyday life and livelihoods within local communities, and to explore future approaches to such efforts. Furthermore, through the case studies and discussions addressed in this course, students are expected to identify and develop insights that contribute to and advance their own research.

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

本授業では、文化的物質の遺産化や資料化の事例として日本における民具収集・保存を扱う。
導入として、「民具」という言葉や概念について解説する。それを踏まえ、なぜ日本において民具の収集が行われてきたのかについて、歴史的経緯や社会的背景からの分析を行う（一部海外の事例も紹介する）。
続いて、地域において行われてきた民具収集・保存の具体的な事例について、聞き取りなどの調査データを用いた民族誌学的な分析を展開する（一部海外の事例も紹介する）。
これらの分析をもとに、既存の理論を整理しつつ、「なぜ人は民具を集めるのか」「なぜ民具は集まるのか」といった問いに答えるべく、論理的考察を行う。
最後に、これからの社会において、物理的に残された民具をいかに保存・活用・継承していくのかを考える。そこでは、博物館の役割や市民参画、デジタル技術の活用などがキーワードとなる。

This course examines the collection and preservation of mingu in Japan as case studies of the heritagization and documentation of cultural material objects. As an introduction, the course provides an explanation of the term and concept of mingu.
Building on this foundation, it analyzes why the collection of mingu has been undertaken in Japan, drawing on historical developments and social contexts (with reference to selected international cases).
The course then explores concrete examples of mingu collection and preservation conducted at the regional level, employing ethnographic analyses based on research data such as interviews (with selected international cases also introduced).
Based on these analyses, the course organizes existing theoretical frameworks and engages in logical inquiry to address questions such as “Why do people collect mingu?” and “Why do mingu come to be collected?”
Finally, the course considers how physically preserved mingu can be conserved, utilized, and transmitted to future generations in contemporary society. Key themes include the role of museums, citizen participation, and the use of digital technologies.
