The goal of this class is to read the academic histories, research trends, and ethnographies of cultural anthropology to help students sort out what issues have been addressed in previous studies and to provide clues to find their own new insights.
Cultural anthropology is a discipline that aims to understand the various "others" living on the earth in terms of culture and society. Its main feature is to think empirically about different cultures and societies and to write ethnographies based on the method of fieldwork (participant observation). This work means simultaneously relativizing the dominant values of the societies in which we live as well as considering human universality. In this class, you will learn about research methods and perspectives in cultural anthropology through a reading of the literature as a first step to writing an ethnography. The readings and the content of the lecture will be determined by consultation within the class according to the interests of the students.

この授業の目標は、文化人類学の学説史や研究動向、民族誌を精読することで、これまでの研究が何を問題として取り上げてきたのかを整理し、自らの新たな知見を見出すための糸口とすることである。
The goal of this class is to read the academic histories, research trends, and ethnographies of cultural anthropology to help students sort out what issues have been addressed in previous studies and to provide clues to find their own new insights.
グローバル化が進む今日、様々な背景をもった人やモノが出会う機会が急速に拡大しており、時には異文化間の摩擦や対立が生じている。その様な状況のなかで、「他者」や「異文化」という概念に対する理解を深めるとともに、それらの対象とどう向き合うかを考えていくことが、我々一人一人にとって重要な課題となっている。
文化人類学は、地球に生きる様々な「他者」を文化と社会の側面から理解することを目指す学問である。その最大の特徴は、フィールドワーク（参与観察）という手法に基づきながら、異なる文化や社会について経験的かつ実証的に考え、民族誌（エスノグラフィー）を書くことにある。この作業は同時に、私たちが生きる社会の支配的な価値観を相対化することだけでなく、人間の普遍性を考えることを意味する。この授業では、春学期の授業に引き続き、グローバル化や移動をテーマとした文献の精読を通して学ぶ。ただし、輪読文献や講義内容は、受講生の興味関心に応じて授業内で相談しながら決定する。
