The primary objective of this course is to acquire the techniques for describing other societies and cultures from the perspective of cultural anthropology, while simultaneously deepening one’s own research questions. The first session will be conducted in person; the format for subsequent sessions will be determined in consultation with the students.
For many researchers, the process of writing a thesis from field notes is not merely a matter of "organizing records". Rather, it is a creative and often agonizing phase in which one re-examines dialogues with subjects and reflects on personal dissonances to fundamentally reconstruct one's own research questions.
In this seminar, we will analyze the "descriptive strategies" of existing exemplary ethnographies and papers. Through this analysis, students will learn the process of transforming field experiences and data into academic papers, utilizing their own data as primary material.

多くの調査者にとって、フィールドノートから論文を執筆する過程は、単なる「記録の整理」ではない。それは、対象との対話や自己の違和感を再考し、自らの「研究の問い」を根底から練り直す、創造的で苦悩に満ちたフェーズである。本演習では、既存の優れたエスノグラフィーや論文の「記述の戦略」を解剖しながら、フィールド経験やデータを学術的な論文にしてゆく過程について学ぶ。その際、受講生自身のデータも素材として活用する。輪読文献や講義内容は、受講生の興味に応じて、相談しながら決定する。
