In this course, we will examine human culture and cultural anthropology in relation to the natural environment, drawing on research and trends not only in cultural anthropology but also in related subjects such as geography, ecology, sociology, agriculture, and development studies. We shall, in particular, expand our grasp of human survival strategies and environmental adaptability, both of which are now considered classical form of field science, by combining them with the lecturer's research on local society and culture. As a light source, we shall throw light on the relationship between humans and nature, as well as the different lifestyles and regional features of survival tactics and environmental adaptation that serve as the foundation of human society. The speech will make us realize the beauty of the environmental symbiosis that peopleA series of lectures will highlight the nobility of the environmental symbiosis that humans have created via communication with nature, as well as lay the groundwork for us to consider the future of human society and the global environment.
❖ You will be able to discuss how people have adapted to different habitats, as well as traditional ways for environmental adaptation.
❖ Gain insight into the complex interactions between humans, animals, and plants, and develop critical thinking skills for managing limited resources.
❖ This course introduces students to regional studies of the Silk Road and CIS countries, and they will acquire research methods, information collection, and fieldwork approaches that they can apply to their own regional studies.
This course, in particular, will focus on relativizing human society and culture as adaptive results to the natural environment unique to each place, and will teach this as part of environmental literacy for comprehending the world's different lifestyles and societies.
The lectures will cover three topics: 1) ethnography of environmental adaptation, 2) interactions between animals/plants and humans, and 3) regional study cases (Silk Road and CIS countries). The first part of the lectures will teach students about human adaptability to the natural environment through case studies of life in diverse locations such as grasslands, deserts, and mountains. In the second part, students will gain practical experience in the creation of regional research on the Central Eurasian CIS countries, also known as the "Silk Road," which is the lecturer's primary focus.
Each lecture will last 45-60 minutes and include 30-45 minutes of activities (presentations, debates, workshops, group work, and so on), and will be delivered using active learning, which allows students to actively participate in the class.

本講義では、文化人類学のみならず、地理学・生態学・社会学・農学・開発学などの隣接領域の研究や動向を参照しながら、《人間文化》と《文化人類学》を自然環境との相互関係の中で相対化して学習します。とくに、現在は古典的な研究となりつつある、人類の生存戦略と環境適応について、講義担当者の研究対象とする地域の社会・文化を合わせて学びを深めます。ヒトと大自然との関係を、人類社会の根源でもある生存戦略と環境適応を光源として、その多様な生活様式や地域の個性に光を当てます。自然との対話を通じて人類の育んだ《環境共生観》の崇高さに講義を通じて気づき、これからの人類社会と地球環境とのあり方にまなざしを向ける思考的土壌を築きます。
❖固有環境に適応してきた人類の多様な生存戦略と環境適応の伝統知や技法を、自らの言葉で語ることができる。
❖人類と動物・植物とのインタラクションの奥行を学習し、限られた資源利用のこれからについて批判的に検討することができる。
❖シルクロードCIS諸国を対象とした地域研究を紹介し、研究手法・情報収集・フィールドワークの方法論を学習し、自らも地域研究に実践できるようになる。
本講義ではとくに、人類社会と文化を地域固有の自然環境への適応的帰結として相対化し、地球上のさまざまな暮らしと社会を読み解くための環境リテラシーの一部として学習します。

講義は、①環境適応のエスノグラフィ、②動物・植物と人類のインタラクション、③地域研究事例（シルクロード地域CIS諸国）、の3つのテーマを設定します。講義の前半は、人類の自然環境への適応について、草原世界、砂漠、山岳地などの固有環境での暮らしのケーススタディを学習します。後半では、講義担当者の主要フィールドとする中央ユーラシアCIS諸国、いわゆる《シルクロード》を対象とした地域研究の展開を実践的に学習します。
毎回の講義は、約45～60分間をレクチャー／30～45分間はアクティビティ（プレゼン、ディスカッション、ワークショップ、グループワークなど）の機会を設け、授業に能動的に取り組めるアクティブ・ラーニングにより展開します。
