By reading theories and practices of "community-based" social studies from the age of the high-growth economy, students discuss the quality and methods of subject formation and citizenship in adult and community education.
First of all, this course recognizes the connection between learning history and formation of subjects by reading significant papers. After that comes discussion of practices and theories of "community-based” social studies by Miyahara Takeo and Yasui Toshio, respectively, who have played an active part in the History Educationalist Conference of Chiba prefecture. Furthermore, using actual lesson reports, students gain the basics of writing papers about social studies.

民衆の主体形成と歴史学・歴史教育に関する注目すべき論文をいくつか取り上げた後は、「地域に根ざす」社会科の実践記録について、なかでも千葉県歴史教育者協議会で活躍した宮原武夫や安井俊夫のよるものを取り上げる。また、実践記録をどう研究し、論文化するのかについても議論する。
