Students will deepen their understanding of The Tale of Genji by transcribing manuscripts written in variant kana, examining the differences in the text among various manuscripts, and overlooking the history of commentary from ancient to modern commentaries.
In this seminar, students will be assigned a section to transcribe, look at a facsimile of a manuscript written in variant kana, list the differences in the text among the various manuscripts, and create and present a summary that lists annotations from ancient to modern commentaries. Students will consider a variety of issues, such as why copying errors occur, how small differences in the text create subtle differences in nuance, and how the history of annotations has changed. Students will also be free to set a theme of their choice regarding issues that arise within their assigned area and present their findings in depth.

変体仮名で書かれた写本の翻刻をし、さまざまな写本における本文異同に目を配り、古注釈から現代の注釈書に至るまでの注釈の歴史を俯瞰しながら、『源氏物語』への理解を深めます。
Students will deepen their understanding of The Tale of Genji by transcribing manuscripts written in variant kana, examining the differences in the text among various manuscripts, and overlooking the history of commentary from ancient to modern commentaries.
本演習では、分担箇所を決め、変体仮名で書かれた写本の影印を見て翻刻し、諸本における本文異同を載せ、古注釈から現代の注釈書に至るまでの注を並べたレジュメを作って発表してもらいます。どうして誤写が生じるのか、本文のちょっとした違いがどのような微妙なニュアンスの違いを生むのか、注釈の歴史がどのように変わってきたのかなど、さまざまな問題を考えます。また、担当範囲から生じる問題について、自由に好きなテーマを設定して、深く追究したことを発表してもらいます。
