Saigyō is a poet whose works feature most prominently in the Shin Kokin Wakashū anthology and who influenced figures such as Sōgi and Matsuo Bashō. Through careful reading of his personal collection, the Sanka Shū, we shall deepen our understanding of the distinctive characteristics of Saigyō's waka poetry.
Several commentaries on the Sanka-shū have been published, yet many poems remain open to interpretation. This seminar will focus on miscellaneous poems, where difficult verses are particularly prominent. Japanese Literature Seminar 3A will cover the miscellaneous section of the middle volume of the Sanka-shū.
We shall begin by outlining Saigyō's biography, the Sanka-shū's structure, and methods for research and presentation. This will be followed by presentations and discussions led by the seminar participants.

西行は、『新古今集』入集第１位で、宗祇や松尾芭蕉にも影響を与えた歌人である。その西行の家集『山家集』を精読することを通して、西行和歌の特色について理解を深める。

『山家集』の注釈書は複数刊行されているが、いまだ解釈が定まっていない歌も少なくない。本演習では、難解歌が目立つ雑歌を取り上げる。日本文学演習３Ａでは、『山家集』中巻雑部を対象とする。
最初に西行の伝記、『山家集』の概要、調査・発表の方法を説明し、その後、担当者による発表と討議を行う。
