The goal of this course is to enhance essential skills for Japanese language research, including close reading of scholarly texts, tracking cutting-edge research trends, and verifying descriptive data using corpora and other resources.
After thoroughly reviewing introductory texts on the history of the Japanese language, revise the existing work to incorporate the latest academic findings while preserving its strengths, bringing it up to a quality suitable for direct use as an undergraduate textbook. Cover orthodox fields such as “Source Criticism,” “Phonetics and Phonology,” “Writing Systems,” “Lexicon,” “Style and Composition,” “Grammar,” “Honorifics,” and “History of Japanese Linguistics.” Update the content to reflect current standards as of 2026, incorporating newly discovered materials and revised scholarly theories. The specific sections to be covered will be determined based on the interests and specializations of the students enrolled.

特定の時代の文学を対象とする者であればその時代の言語的側面は当然学ぶ必要があるので、日本語の歴史的な側面について興味関心があれば必ずしも日本語学を専攻している必要はありません。状況に応じて、コーパスの扱いや文献調査の方法についても基礎から体系的に学んでいきます。
ここで行う「改訂」は、授業内で勝手に行うものであり、実際の出版社や著者等とは一切関係ありません。
「文献の精読」「最先端に至る研究動向の追跡」「コーパス等を用いた記載データの追検証」といった日本語研究に必須の技能を向上させる。

国語史（日本語史）に関する概説書を読み込んだうえで、長所を残しつつも最新の学術成果を取り込んで更新し、そのまま学部生向けの教科書として使用できるクオリティにまで改訂する。「資料論」「音声音韻」「文字表記」「語彙」「文章文体」「文法」「敬語」「国語学史」といったオーソドックスな分野を扱い、新資料の発掘や学説の更新などをふまえて2026年現在通用する内容に改める。担当箇所は、受講生の興味関心や専攻分野によって適宜考えていくことになる。
