【Course Objectives】

With "dirt" (yogore) as the keyword, each participant will write a paper related to modern and contemporary Japanese literature in line with his/her own interests.
Through the presentation and discussion, participants will deepen their understanding of literary works, criticism, and philosophy of thought related to the keywords, and at the same time, advance their understanding of the latest literary research.

【Course Contents】

Using "dirt" (yogore) as a key word, students will read literary texts while learning basic concepts to consider this issue.
It also enhances the development of students’ skill in making oral presentation and self-regulated learning.
The texts covered will range from those published in the Meiji period to contemporary literature.
The term "dirt" is intended to imply, for the moment, irreversibility, excess, and that which can be tried to be removed but cannot be. It is opposed to purity and distinguished from vulnerability. Or, if we set up a dichotomy between logic and practice, it can be imagined as something that suggests practice. Based on the premise that there are things in this world that can only be described as "dirt," and that literary texts can sometimes carve out such things, I hope to deepen our discussion through this presentation and discussion.
