The aim of the course is to expand the methodological repertoire available for advancing literary research, and to position students' interests within a wide range of intellectual areas related to literature and culture. The course will expect students to not only master critical theory but also, from there, to display thinking that cuts across modern critical research theories.
Using “Animal Studies: 29 Basic Concepts,” as a textbook, course participants will learn about important concepts in animal studies and the latest trends in research methodology. Basically, the class will take the form of exercises. After deciding on the chapters to be covered in class in consultation with the participants, each chapter of the text will be discussed based on the reports of the participant in charge to deepen the students' understanding of it.

文学研究を進める上で利用可能な方法論的レパートリーを拡張し、文学や文化に関わる幅広い知的領域の中に自分の関心を位置づけることをねらいとする。単に批評理論をマスターするだけではなく、そこを起点に現代の批評研究理論を横断していく思考の実現を期待する。

ローリー・グルーエン編『アニマル・スタディーズ 29の基本概念』（平凡社）をテキストに、近年注目されているアニマル・スタディーズの重要な概念や、最新の研究方法論の動向について学ぶ。基本的に演習形式をとり、受講者と相談して授業で扱う章を決めた後、テキストの各章について、担当する受講者の報告に基づいた議論を通して理解を深めていく。
Using “Animal Studies: 29 Basic Concepts,” as a textbook, course participants will learn about important concepts in animal studies and the latest trends in research methodology.
