The aim of the course is to expand the methodological repertoire available for advancing literary research, and to position students' interests within a wide range of intellectual areas related to literature and culture. The course will expect students to not only master critical theory but also, from there, to display thinking that cuts across modern critical research theories.
Using Matsuura Hisaki's Representational Space in the Meiji Era (Iwanami Gendai Bunko) as our text, we will explore methods for applying representational theory to literary history and examine trends in related research methodologies. The course will primarily take the form of a seminar, where we will deepen our understanding through discussions based on reports by assigned students on each chapter of Part III, “The Modernity of Écriture.”

事前学習としては、担当者は分担した章について報告の準備をする。また、受講者は授業で扱う章をあらかじめ熟読しておき、必要な参考文献等にあたって討論に参加できる準備をする（報告者として合計30時間、受講者として各回約1時間）。
事後学習としては、授業で学んだ理論を実際の文学テクストに応用する実践を重ね、理論的な分析記述の経験を積むことが求められる。その成果については、学期末レポートに反映することが求められる。（合計15時間）

文学研究を進める上で利用可能な方法論的レパートリーを拡張し、文学や文化に関わる幅広い知的領域の中に自分の関心を位置づけることをねらいとする。単に批評理論をマスターするだけではなく、そこを起点に現代の批評研究理論を横断していく思考の実現を期待する。

松浦寿輝『明治の表象空間』（岩波現代文庫）をテキストに、表象論の文学史論への適用の方法や、関連する研究方法論の動向について学ぶ。基本的に演習形式をとり、テキスト第Ⅲ部「エクリチュールの近代」各章について、担当する受講者の報告に基づいた議論を通して理解を深めていく。
