This course introduces how the homeland has been represented in modern and contemporary Japanese literature, and how it has been impossible to do so.
This course deals with the basic concepts for thinking about how modern and contemporary Japanese literature has expressed the homeland.
It also enhances the development of students’ skill in making oral presentation and self-regulated learning.
The texts covered will range from those published in the Meiji period to contemporary literature. In addition, in thinking about the homeland, the structural issues of society, such as "central and local," are deeply involved, and it is necessary to cultivate an understanding of these issues by referring to the findings of history and sociology.

日本近現代文学において、故郷がいかに表象されてきたか、あるいはそれがいかに不可能であったかを理解する。
This course introduces how the homeland has been represented in modern and contemporary Japanese literature, and how it has been impossible to do so.
故郷をテーマとして、この問題を考えるための基本的な概念を学びつつ、文学テクストを読解する。
また、履修者の口頭発表のスキルや個別の研究の進め方に関して議論、指導を行う。
対象となるテクストは明治期に発表されたものから現代文学までに至る。さらに、故郷を考えるうえでは「中央と地方」という社会の構造的な問題が深く関わり、歴史学や社会学の知見を参照しながらそれらに対する理解を涵養することも求められる。
