The purpose of this lecture is to deepen understanding of the pictorialization of texts through "Genji-e," paintings based on The Tale of Genji. While learning the basics of art history research, students will also be able to apply this methodology to their own research by viewing Genji-e as a form of reception of literary works.
The lectures will focus mainly on "Genji-e," paintings based on The Tale of Genji. The Tale of Genji is a rare subject that has been visualized in art history from the Heian period to the present, and in each lecture, we will introduce various works using images and discuss the inheritance and transformation of the motifs. The lectures will share methodologies and engage in discussion so that each student can utilize visual images in their own research, viewing story pictures as a form of reception of literary works.

源氏物語を主題とする絵画「源氏絵」を通じて、テクストの絵画化について理解を深めること。美術史研究の基本を学びつつ、源氏絵を文学作品受容の一形態として捉える視点を得て、その方法論を各自の研究に活用できるようになること。
The purpose of this lecture is to deepen understanding of the pictorialization of texts through "Genji-e," paintings based on The Tale of Genji. While learning the basics of art history research, students will also be able to apply this methodology to their own research by viewing Genji-e as a form of reception of literary works.
講義では主として、源氏物語を主題とする絵画「源氏絵」を取りあげる。源氏物語は美術史においても、平安時代から現代まで視覚化され続けてきている希有な主題であり、毎回の講義では、多様な作品を画像を用いて紹介しながら図様の継承と変容について講じる。物語絵を文学作品受容の一形態として捉え、受講者各自がそれぞれの研究において視覚的イメージを活用していけるよう、方法論を共有し、ディスカッションを交えながら進める。この講義は「日本文学研究3A」と連動しているため、あわせて受講することが望ましい。
