To acquire the methods of critical reading by using any scholarly book on Japanese linguistics, ranging from those dealing with the history of the Japanese language to those addressing theoretical issues. The primary aim is to understand how arguments are developed and how texts are structured, rather than just understanding the content. Additionally, the goal is to be able to apply the acquired methods to write reports or papers on topics of personal interest.
Each student will present, introduce, and closely read a specialized book on Japanese linguistics.

日本語学研究の書籍であれば、どのような書籍でも対象となる。柔軟に色々な書籍を読むことが求められる。
日本語の歴史を扱ったものから理論的な問題を扱ったものまで、日本語学に関するあらゆる学術書を用いて、批評的読解の方法を習得する。単に内容を理解するだけでなく、どのように議論が展開され、どのように文章が構成されているかを理解することを第一の目的とする。さらに、習得した方法を応用して、個人的に興味のあるテーマについてレポートや論文を書けるようになることを目標とする。
