Students will be able to examine, through an analysis of theme, image, phonology and rhythm, the relationship between content and form in “free verse”, where poems no longer follow traditional methods of versification.
Students will read 20th century French free verse. This year, the focus will be on La Fable du monde by Jules Supervielle (1884-1960), published in 1938. Born in Montevideo to French parents who had emigrated to Uruguay, the poet returned to his parents' homeland at the age of ten. Students will analyze the way he understands and expresses the world, between France and the vast South American pampas where he spent his childhood.

詩が伝統的な作詩法に従わなくなった「自由詩」における内容と形式の関係を，テーマ，イマージュ，音韻，リズムなどの分析を通して考察できるようになる。

20世紀フランスの自由詩のなかから，本年度は主としてジュール・シュペルヴィエル（Jules Supervielle, 1884-1960）が1938年に発表した『世界の寓話』 (La Fable du monde)を取り上げる。ウルグアイに移住したフランス人を両親としてモンテヴィデオに生まれ，10歳で両親の祖国に戻ったあと詩作の道に入った詩人が，フランスと，幼年時代を過ごした南米の広大なパンパ（大草原）のあいだで，世界をどのようにとらえ，表現したかを分析する。
