We will read Hannah Arendt's thoughts on the concept of history and tradition to gain a renewed perspective on the status of humanity and subjectivity.
We will read and discuss Hannah Arendt's Between Past and Future.
Reviewing the transformation of the concept of history from ancient to modern times, Arendt articulated human freedom as the ability to act and begin. The book provides a wide-ranging critical examination of what religious traditions, politics, art, and education have meant since ancient times, and what crises they face or pose in the modern era. Those arguments offer many opportunities for us to rethink how we are as the subjects of action in our current times.
Each class will be discussed based on the presenter's presentation.

歴史や伝統の概念をめぐるハンナ・アーレントの議論を検討し、人間の主体性を実践的に考察するための新しい視点を獲得する。
We will read Hannah Arendt's thoughts on the concept of history and tradition to gain a renewed perspective on the status of humanity and subjectivity.
ハンナ・アーレントの『過去と未来の間』を講読します。この著作の中で、アーレントは、古代から近代までの歴史の概念の変容について整理しながら、自動的過程に抗して行為し、新しいものを創設し、始める能力としての人間の自由を強調しました。この本では同時に、宗教的伝統、政治、芸術、教育といったものが、古来何を意味してきたのか、現在どのような危機をもたらしているのか等について広範な批判的検討がなされおり、そこには現在を生きる私たちの行為主体としてのあり方を実践的に捉え直すための手がかりが多く含まれています。
毎回の授業では、講読箇所と発表者を決め、その発表に基づき議論を行います。
