The goal is to read Giorgio Agamben's "The Use of the Body" to learn the concepts of "use" and "mode" and to acquire the ability to think philosophically.
Giorgio Agamben's The Use of the Body (2014) attempts to invert the implications of concepts such as "use," "mode," and "life" in the history of Western philosophy and to highlight the hidden potential of these concepts. Agamben reexamines the transition of various philosophical concepts from ancient Greece through medieval and modern philosophy, and attempts to investigate a new political dimension. In this class, we will read "The Use of the Body" to learn the concepts of "use" and "mode," in particular, and to acquire the ability to think philosophically on our own.

ジョルジョ・アガンベンの『身体の使用』（2014年）は、西洋哲学史における「使用」「様態」「生」といった諸概念の含意を反転させ、それら諸概念に隠された可能性を浮き彫りにすることを企てた書物である。アガンベンは、古代ギリシア由来のさまざまな哲学的概念が中世哲学や近現代哲学をとおして辿った変遷を再検討し、新たな政治的次元の究明を試みている。この授業では、『身体の使用』を読み解き、わけても「使用」と「様態」の概念を学ぶとともに、みずから哲学的に思考する力を身につけることをめざす。
