Through close reading of Foucault's later texts such as The Hermeneutics of the Subject and The Technologies of the Self, we will reveal a distinct genealogy of knowledge—one grounded in spiritual practices—as “care of the self.” This contrasts with the traditional Western philosophical notion of “know thyself” as the means to attain truth.
Foucault's theme of “the care of the self” serves as a nexus of threads leading to diverse subjects: reflections on techniques of the body and soul, themes concerning dependence on others, inquiries into the sovereignty of the self and others, and the thematic system of salvation. This seminar will focus on the lecture transcripts from Foucault's 1981-1982 course at the Collège de France. Through close reading of Foucault's texts related to “the care of the self,” we will trace the genealogy of spiritual knowledge and explore an alternative form of the “subject” distinct from the “Cartesian moment.

後期フーコーの『主体の解釈学』や『自己のテクノロジー』などのテクストを精読すること通じて、西洋哲学において伝統的に真理に到達する手段として定位されてきた「汝自身を知れ」とは異なる知の系譜、霊性の実践に基づいた知の有り様としての「自己への配慮」の知の系譜を明らかにする。

フーコーの「自己への配慮」というテーマは、身体と魂の技法をめぐる省察や、他者への依存をめぐる主題、自己と他者の主権に関する考察、救済の主題系等の多様な主題へと誘う思考の糸の結節点である。この演習では、フーコーがコレージュ・ド・フランスで行った講義（1981-1982年度）の講義録を中心に、「自己への配慮」に関連するフーコーの諸テクストの精読を通じて、霊的な知の系譜をたどり、「デカルト的契機」とは異なるもうひとつの「主体」の有り様を考える。
