Through reading Goethe and Ortega, we aim to help students form their own thoughts about "knowledge" and "acquiring knowledge."
By alternately reading Goethe's "Faust" and Ortega's "The Revolt of the Masses," we will grasp the changing state of "knowledge (people)" from the modern era to the present, question the pitfalls of specialization and the aristocracy of the spirit, and consider how we can sharpen our critical intellect and fulfill our duties in the present day.

ゲーテとオルテガの読解を通して、「知識」について、「知識をうるということ」について、自らの考えをもてるようになることを目指します。
Through reading Goethe and Ortega, we aim to help students form their own thoughts about "knowledge" and "acquiring knowledge."
ゲーテの『ファウスト』とオルテガの『大衆の反逆』を交互に読み解くことを通して、近代から現代へと移り変わってゆく「知識（人）」のありようを捉え、専門化の陥穽や精神の貴族主義を問い直し、現代においていかにして批判的知性を研ぎ澄まし、自らのなすべき義務を果たしてゆけるのかを考察します。
