【授業の目標 / Course Objectives】

F・デスコラやE・ヴィヴェイロス・ヂ・カストロ、B・ラトゥールらの仕事と深く共鳴する箭内匡の『イメージの人類学』を精読し、「文化」や「社会」といった概念を取り払ったうえで、どのような学問的語りが可能になるのかを考える。「他なる」ものへの関心を中心に据えた広義の「人類学」構想からの領域横断的な領有を企てる。

Through close reading of Tadashi Yanai's An Anthropology of Images—which deeply resonates with the works of F. Descola, E. Viveiros de Castro, and B. Latour among others—we attempt to examine what kind of academic narratives become possible once concepts like “culture” and “society” are set aside. We aim for an interdisciplinary appropriation rooted in a broad conception of ‘anthropology’ centered on an interest in the “Other.

【授業の内容 / Course Contents】

従来の人文社会学では、「社会」や「文化」の〈全体〉はアプリオリに措定され、個人はその〈全体〉との相互作用によって生成変化するものと説明されてきた。だが、21世紀の現代において、もはや「社会」や「文化」の〈全体〉なるものは自明ではなくなり、これまでの説明原理は通用しなくなっている。いまや〈全体〉をアプリオリに想定する前提は捨て去られなければならない。代わりに求められているのは、隣接する諸要素が関連しあって広がりをかたちづくったり、思いがけない共鳴によって無関係にみえる諸要素が連結しあう過程のメカニズムや強度、そこに生じる複数の意味といったものの探究である。本演習ではそのための手がかりとして『イメージの人類学』を精読する。

In traditional humanistic sociology, the “Whole” of “Society” or “Culture” was postulated a priori, and individuals were explained as being generated and transformed through interactions with that Whole. However, in the 21st century, the notion of that “Whole” is no longer obvious, and the conventional explanatory principles can no longer available. What is required instead is an exploration of the mechanisms and intensity of processes where adjacent elements interrelate to shape expanses, or where seemingly unrelated elements connect through unexpected resonance, along with the multiple meanings that emerge there. In this seminar, we will closely read An Anthropology of Images as a key to this inquiry.

授業前に必ずテキストを読み込み、議論とすべき点をクリアにしておくこと。各回の復習には２時間程度を要する。それ以外の授業時間外の学修に関する指示は， 履修登録完了後に「Canvas LMS」上で履修者に対して行う。
