This course aims to equip participants with multifaceted methodologies for historical research using multilingual historical sources, and to develop the ability to conduct independent research in practice.
(1) Existing scholarship on issues related to the relationship between religion and trade is examined, and methods of academic research are introduced. Classes are conducted in a seminar format, combining presentations and discussions with instructors’ commentary and guidance.
(2) Persian historical sources (or Arabic sources) from the period of the Mongol Empire and the Yuan dynasty, or related to the course theme, are read and analyzed.
(3) Sanskrit and Classical Chinese historical sources related to the course theme are read and analyzed.
(1), (2), and (3) are carried out in rotation on a weekly basis. In addition, off-campus learning activities, such as visits to museums and art museums for the examination of historical materials, are conducted as appropriate.

多言語史資料を使用した歴史研究の多角的な方法論を習得し、実際に研究を進める能力を身につける。
This course aims to equip participants with multifaceted methodologies for historical research using multilingual historical sources, and to develop the ability to conduct independent research in practice.
①宗教と交易の関係に関わる諸問題について先行研究を検証し、学術研究の方法について学ぶ。授業はゼミ形式で実施。受講生による発表と討論、教員による講評と指導を組み合わせて進める。
②モンゴル帝国・元朝期、またはテーマに関連するペルシア語史料（或いはアラビア語）を講読する
③テーマに関連するサンスクリット語・漢語史料を講読する
週替りで①②③を順番におこなう。また、随時、学外演習として博物館・美術館で資料見学をおこなう。
