【Course Objectives】

[Knowledge] Students will acquire knowledge of major economic events in Japanese history, including its distinctive characteristics and features shared with other economies and their influence on contemporary Japan.
[Critical thinking skills] Students will develop critical thinking skills through historical cases.
[Presentation and discussion skills] Students will enhance their presentation skills and the ability to engage in constructive debates.

【Course Contents】

The course examines Japanese economic history from the modern era to the 21st century. The course is designed to develop research, critical analysis, presentation, and discussion skills. Modern Economic History 1 examines the period from the Meiji era to 1945, and Modern Economic History 2 discusses the period from 1945 to the 21st century. The course content includes lectures, readings, projects, and short assignments.
