【Course Objectives】

Upon completion of this advanced seminar, students will
1.understand the similarities and differences between family-owned business and non-family-owned companies.
2.be acquainted with the Theory of Family Business Management.
3.know conceptual and analytical tools to identify, analyze and critically evaluate the strategic, managerial, governance and productivity challenges of family-owned businesses associated with complex (international) environments across generations.
The practical background for course will be (in most cases) internationally operating German Family-owned Businesses.

【Course Contents】

This course examines on an advanced level the characteristics, strategic goals, and governance mechanisms of (German) family-owned businesses operating in complex (often international) business environments. It explores the economic, organizational and managerial challenges and opportunities these companies face. The course analyzes the key drivers of family business longevity during internationalization and evaluates the strategic and managerial implications involved.
