Urban and Regional Economics emphasizes spatial dimensions more than other branches of economics. Urban Economics explores issues such as firm and household location, agglomeration, and land use, while Regional Economics addresses regional growth, industrial linkages, interregional disparities, and migration.
This course equips students with core quantitative tools and econometric techniques to analyze key topics in Regional Economics, particularly income growth and distribution. By emphasizing the spatial aspects of economic activity, it connects theoretical insights to real-world regional development challenges and policy responses.
This course develops students’ ability to use analytical models to formulate research questions and apply theoretical concepts to empirical analysis. The primary focus is on understanding the determinants of regional income and its spatial distribution. Students will also acquire foundational skills in empirical research through hands-on workshops using Stata.
The first and second sessions may be canceled due to the instructor’s personal circumstances. Make-up arrangements will be announced after the semester begins.

Registration in Statistics for Economics and Management (KT221) or an equivalent academic background
is required.
Proficiency in Stata programming is also a prerequisite.
This graduate-level course involves technical content that requires foundational knowledge of statistics, microeconomics, and macroeconomics.
It has proven demanding for many non-MPMA students; prospective participants should carefully assess their preparedness and commitment.
Undergraduate exchange students are not eligible to enroll.
