【Course Objectives】

Through the excited state produced by molecules absorbing light, various photophysical and photochemical processes occur (e.g. luminescence, intersystem crossing, internal conversion, electron transfer, excitation energy transfer, etc.). In the lecture, students will strive to master the fundamentals in order to acquire a theoretical understanding of that.

【Course Contents】

The lecturer will cover how to theoretically describe the electronic states and electronic transitions of molecules. At that time, the lecturer will also suitably explain the necessary fundamental quantum theory (e.g. perturbation theory, tunneling effect, etc.). Moreover, the lecturer will also explain the fundamental theory of several excited-state processes such as photo-induced electron transfer and excitation energy transfer, which play a crucial role in photosynthesis, organic solar cells, and organic electronic devices.
