【Course Objectives】

Under the supervision of their advisors, each student will read either books or articles in their area of specialization, primarily in seminar format. When necessary, the supervisors will also impart their expertise in the form of a lecture.
The faculty will provide guidance so that the graduate students will be able to approach mathematics with an awareness of problems.
Ultimately, the goal will be to prepare a master's thesis. Therefore, the students will either digest appropriate technical books or papers related to their field of research, and formulate and solve their research problems.

【Course Contents】

In Research in Mathematics 1-4, the graduate students will proactively conduct mathematical research, and the supervisors will provide advice as well as instruction in the necessary knowledge, while being mindful of the research direction. Initially, each graduate student, with the advice of his or her advisors, will decide on the details of his or her research area and select technical books on it. In 1 and 2, the students will read these technical books and absorb the necessary knowledge for research. In 3, the students will refer to technical papers, etc. and formulate their research problems. From the second half of 3 to 4, the students will continue their research on problem solving by reading the literature on their set problems. This phase is the most important part of the course, and the supervisors will support the students' investigations through discussions with the graduate students and advice. Finally, the supervisors will provide guidance on how to synthesize the students' findings on their research problems into a master's thesis.
