We will study embodied communication and modalities employed in leisure pursuits by addressing material culture in consumer society.
We will conduct a review of existing approaches to hobbyist activities in sociology, with a particular emphasis on fieldwork, and will consider these approaches from the practice of ethnography in order to conduct qualitative research on the cultural activities of hobbyists. Each student will conduct fieldwork with individuals who are socially immersed in leisure pursuits in order to investigate research methods that are targeted toward the practical actions and practical reasonings of the individuals concerned. This will be done in order to fulfill the course requirements. Following data gathering in the field, a thorough analysis will be performed, and an ethnography will be prepared. In addition, there will be an opportunity for a data session.

趣味活動の中で行われる身体的なコミュニケーションの技術を、消費社会における物質文化を交えて分析する。
We will study embodied communication and modalities employed in leisure pursuits by addressing material culture in consumer society.
趣味的な文化活動についての質的研究を目的に，フィールドワークを中心とした既存の社会学における趣味活動へのアプローチを概観するとともに、エスノグラフィーの実践から考える。特に当事者の活動に志向した研究の方法について検討するために、実際に趣味活動を行っている人々を対象としたフィールドワークを履修者全員が行う。フィールドで得られたデータをもとに分析を行い、エスノグラフィーを作成する。 各自で持ち寄ったデータを履修者全員で検討するデータセッションの機会も設ける。
