【Course Objectives】

Students will review and understand the latest studies on topics such as types of work in the new (or gig) economy, high-involvement work systems, flexible forms of employment, a work-life balance, women's work, migrant or immigrant workers and new labor movements which are discussed in English journals.

【Course Contents】

Students will review and understand the latest studies on topics such as types of work in the new (or gig) economy, high-involvement work systems, flexible forms of employment, a work-life balance, women's work, migrant or immigrant workers and new labor movements which are discussed in English journals. Students will read the latest articles from the following journals.
American Journal of Sociology,
American Sociological Review,
British Journal of Industrial Relation,
Capital and Class,
Economic and Industrial Democracy,
Labor Studies Journal,
Work, Employment and Society, etc.
In this class, students are able to understand the latest arguments discussed in English-speaking countries and areas and also to consider implications of these arguments for Japanese economy, society, and workers.
