【Course Objectives】

The goal of this class is to master the basic methods and topics of media history research. We hope that students will have their own unique awareness of issues and acquire empirical research methods that are appropriate for them.

【Course Contents】

Radio entered the stage of practical use in the 1920s, and this period coincided with the period when Western European powers were acquiring vast colonies around the world. Therefore, developed countries used radio for the consolidation of nation-states and colonial rule. Particularly during World War II, each country used radio to carry out foreign propaganda and to control domestic ideology. In this class, we will trace the development of Japanese radio during the Pacific War through reading literature.
