Students will read in rotation the book “Competition Culture : Questioning Artistic and Expressive Activities as Competitions” published in 2024, and consider the idea of competing in performance. Students will then write a report and give a presentation on the competitive nature of performance. The class plan may change slightly depending on the number of students and the progress of the class. Students are expected to have sufficient Japanese reading comprehension.
Students will be exposed to the results of advanced study in the sociology of music, and will be able to utilize the results in their own research.

2024年に刊行された『コンクール文化論 競技としての芸術・表現活動を問う』を輪読し、パフォーマンスを競い合うことについて考える。その上で、受講生はパフォーマンスの競技性をテーマにレポートの執筆とプレゼンテーションをする。授業計画は、受講生の人数や授業の進捗度合いで多少の変化あり。受講者には十分な日本語の読解力が求められる。
Students will read in rotation the book “Competition Culture : Questioning Artistic and Expressive Activities as Competitions” published in 2024, and consider the idea of competing in performance.
