- Mapping the theoretical and methodological foundations of social movement research.
- Applying interpretation and explanation to specific social movement phenomena.
Since the 21st century, social movement studies has been revitalized. Globalization, neo-liberalism, terrorism, climate change, pandemics, and information technology. As global synchronicity increases, the nature of social movements is changing both domestically and internationally. From collective action to identity politics. From social change to self-realization. The scope of social movement studies is broad, which is also a factor. Research that emphasizes historical context and life history aspects, which have not been sufficient until now, has also appeared. From the classics of social movement studies to contemporary theory, the subject of study will be selected based on the interests of the graduates, and the discussion will be deepened through reports and discussions by the graduates.

21世紀以降、社会運動研究は再活性化してきている。グローバル化、ネオ・リベラリズム、テロリズム、気候変動、パンデミック、そして、情報技術。世界的な共時性が高まっていく中で、社会運動の様相は国内外で変化している。集合行動からアイデンティティポリティクス。社会変革から自己実現。社会運動研究の射程は広範囲に渡っていることも要因である。また、これまで十分ではなかった歴史的文脈や生活史的側面を強調する研究も登場している。社会運動研究の古典から現代理論まで、受講生の関心に即して、検討対象を定め、考究していく。受講生による報告とディスカッションを通じて、議論を深めていく。
