The aim of the course is to deepen students' understanding of the inner workings of authoritarian regimes from a micro perspective and to use their findings to conduct their own research and improve their ability to report and write papers.
In Asia, the boom in democratisation seen in countries such as South Korea, Taiwan and Indonesia by the 1990s has receded. Currently, not only are authoritarian regimes suppressing democratic movements, but also the problem of democratic regimes becoming more authoritarian is being pointed out in countries such as India. In this seminar, we will examine why such drastic changes occurred by reading related books. In the second half of the class, the students will also present a research report as part of their preparation for their own master's thesis and research paper, referring to the content of this course.

この授業の目標は権威主義体制の内実について、ミクロな視点から理解を深めることと、その知見をもとに、自身の研究を行い、報告や論文作成の能力を高めることである。

アジアでは、1990年代までに韓国・台湾・インドネシアなどで見られた民主化のブームが後退している。現在は、権威主義体制による民主化運動の弾圧だけでなく、インドなどでは民主主義体制が強権化する問題が指摘されている。
こうした激変がなぜ発生したのかを、文献を講読することによって考える。また、授業の後半では、本授業の内容を参照しつつ、受講者は自身の修士論文およびリサーチ・ペーパー作成のための準備の一環として、研究報告を行う。
