During the Western Middle Ages, especially the Romanesque period, many large-scale sculptures and mural paintings were created in churches along the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela, where the tomb of St. James the Greater is located. We compare these images with the texts of the Bible and deepen your understanding of Christian iconography.
This seminar focuses on the mural paintings and sculptures of churches in France and Spain along the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela from the Romanesque period (around the 12th century). We will explain the historical background and compare these images with the text of the Bible.

西欧中世、特にロマネスク時代は大規模な彫刻や壁画が、聖大ヤコブの墓所のあるサン・ティアゴ・デ・コンポステラ聖堂への巡礼路沿いの教会堂に多数作られた。それらの形象と『聖書』の内容を照らし合わせ、キリスト教図像学の理解を深める。

ロマネスク時代（12世紀頃）の、サン・ティアゴへの巡礼路沿いのフランスやスペインの聖堂壁画や彫刻を対象とする。時代背景とともに解説し、それら図像と『聖書』のテキストとを比較考察する。
