This course is designed for students who have completed the beginner- and intermediate-level study. Students will learn to read sentences on familiar topics. Several different styles of writing will be presented in order to develop reading skills. Students will also learn to read sentences containing unfamiliar words, without the use of a dictionary, by relying on context and other clues. Moreover, reading comprehension will be used as a tool to build students’ active and passive vocabulary knowledge.
Students will be presented a variety of reading materials in various styles, such as descriptions, essays, newspaper articles, and novels, to learn reading skills, comprehend contents, etc. Students will also have discussions on what they have read. Moreover, quizzes on designated vocabulary will be given every class in order to build vocabulary.
