Notes

【Course Objectives】

By going study abroad, students will develop and broaden their understanding of the importance of liberal arts education. Also, students acknowledge the relationships between human beings and society in an international and global setting.

In this course, the students will:
- discover and cultivate their potential strengths, improve their communication skills in English, and build worldwide networks of people.
- acquire diverse and essential learning skills and knowledge, enhancing their comprehension and appreciation of different fields of study in foreign learning environments.
- achieve the level that allows them to pursue specific subjects in the field of study they will choose and complete their graduation papers in their final year in GLAP.

Students are expected to:
- acknowledge the significance of being exposed to and experiencing diverse cultures and customs by living and studying with students from diverse backgrounds in environments different from Japan or their home countries.
- develop an objective point of view of their own culture.
- become aware of the value of a global citizen and the responsibility for their own actions and opinions.

【Course Contents】

Students will:
- attend courses and classes, fulfil their requirements, and experience liberal arts education at the study abroad institutions where they are accepted.
- seek advice on courses, studies, and other extra-curricular activities from advisors/mentors of partner institutions and the Study Abroad instructors of GLAP, Rikkyo University.
- do Monthly work:
(1)Month Report: write and hand in reports on the contents and the progress of their study every month to the Canvas LMS of Rikkyo University.
(2)Monthly Achievements: choose some academic achievements of the month that include assignments and works done in a month to the Canvas LMS of Rikkyo University.
(3)Reflection: as much as possible, review the feedback and comments on their monthly reports and achievements that the students will receive every month from the Study Abroad instructors in GLAP.

補足事項 (Supplementary Items)
Provide regular feedback and comments on monthly work students submitted to the Canvas LMS.

【授業時間外(予習・復習等)の学修 / Study Required Outside of Class】

Before the course starts, students are required to attend a session that the organisers of the course will hold at the end of the Spring Semester to overview and finally check their Study Abroad plan. The students are expected to submit the preparation report at this point.

While taking the course, students:
- are expected to attend various extracurricular activities (clubs, student associations, volunteers, local organisations, etc.) to learn diverse phenomena of societies and cultures at the institution overseas.
- are required to keep in contact with the course instructors of Rikkyo University by submitting monthly reports and achievements. Further, contacts, including online conversations, will be held if necessary.
- are required to inform the course instructors of Study Abroad in GLAP, Rikkyo University, of the classes they plan to take during the second semester and an intermediate term, like J-term if it's applicable, at their study abroad institution before each semester starts.

Students must submit the official transcript as they receive it to the Canvas LMS.
As a rule, the students who fail to pass all the registered classes and cannot obtain any credits during the semester at the Study Abroad institution will not pass “Study Abroad 1”.
