This course aims to facilitate students' comprehension of fundamental urban social theories and equip them with the capacity to utilize these theories in analyzing the nexus between urban living infrastructures and social relationships and behaviors.
This course introduces students to a set of core themes in the field of urban sociology with a focus on urban ethnography. It examines the key theoretical paradigms that have been constructed to support the development of the field and evaluates how these paradigms have contributed to the study of urban issues and the reasons for their evolution over time. Noteworthy subjects encompass contemporary urban phenomena, urban political economy, globalization, urban culture, and urban planning. The course is designed to foster students' understanding of comparative and historical perspectives on society and the city. It further aims to guide students in conducting ethnographic research projects that make sense of urban life.
