Through the examination of William Faulkner's major novel, As I Lay Dying (1930), this course aims to familiarize students with basic research methods in the fields of literary and cultural studies. In addition, under the instructor’s guidance throughout the semester, students will acquire more advanced knowledge and skills to promote their research for doctoral dissertations and publication of research papers.
The course will read William Faulkner's major novel, As I lay Dying (1930), pairing with several important scholarly papers.

この科目は、20世紀アメリカ文学を代表する作家ウィリアム・フォークナーの傑作『死の床に横たわりて』(1930年)の検討を通して、文学・文化研究の分野における研究方法を身につけることを目標とする。また、学期を通して担当者の指導のもと、前期課程よりも高度な知識やスキルを身に付けることを目標に置き、各自の博士論文に向けた研究ならびに論文の執筆に役立てる。
Through the examination of William Faulkner's major novel, As I Lay Dying (1930), this course aims to familiarize students with basic research methods in the fields of literary and cultural studies.
