This course examines multiple “Genjimonogatari Emaki” scrolls, focusing on interpreting their accompanying texts and analyzing the paintings. By reading the scrolls' texts written in cursive kana (Hentaigana） and striving to grasp the characteristics of their pictorial expression, students will acquire art historical research methods applicable to their own research and thesis writing.
This course focuses on the Genji-e paintings, particularly the Genji Monogatari Emaki (Tokugawa/Goto Edition), analyzing the illustrations and interpreting the accompanying text. It also traces the lineage of Genji-e paintings following the Tokugawa/Goto Edition. While lectures will be conducted online, students will be assigned sections of the text to interpret each session and submit their transcriptions for sharing via the LMS. Prior knowledge of classical Japanese language and literature, along with basic skills in reading variant kana, is desirable for enrollment. Additionally, exhibition visits (to museums and art galleries in Tokyo) will be arranged to aid understanding of the course content (transportation and admission fees are the responsibility of the student. The schedule may change to coincide with suitable exhibition dates). This course is specifically designed to support the research of students planning to write a thesis on pre-modern Japanese literature.

日本の古典文学を原文で読むための基礎知識（古文および変体仮名の読解能力）
授業の目標およびすべての評価方法において、前期課程よりも高度な達成水準を要求する。
日本現存最古の物語絵である「源氏物語絵巻」を取りあげ、詞書の読解と絵の分析を行う。古語・変体仮名（くずし字）で書写された絵巻の詞書を読み、絵画表現の特徴の把捉に努めることにより、各自の修士論文執筆に活用しうる美術史の研究方法を身につけることを目標とする。

『源氏物語絵巻』を絵画化した源氏絵の中から、特に「源氏物語絵巻」（徳川・五島本）を中心に取りあげ、詞書の読解と絵の分析を行う。あわせて、徳川・五島本以降の源氏絵の系譜についても講じる。講義はオンラインを交えるが、受講者は毎回、詞書の読解を分担し、Canvas LMSを通じて翻刻を提出・共有する。受講にあたっては、古語・古文の知識と変体仮名読解の基本的な知識があることが望ましい。また、授業内容の理解に役立つ展覧会の見学（都内美術館・博物館）を実施する予定である（交通費・入館券の購入は受講者負担。実施回は適切な展覧会の会期にあわせて変更する可能性がある）。この授業は、特に、前近代の日本文学を博士論文のテーマとする学生の研究に資するよう、計画されている。
