Terms such as "SDGs," "environmentally symbiotic society," and "anthropocene" have come to appear on the front stage of political economy. These are reflections on economic activities that have neglected the environment, and are nothing but a common understanding that a new search is needed for the relationship between humans and nature. The "nature" recalled there is an "ecosystem" symbolized by biodiversity, but for many people in modern society, nature is an abstract existence. In order not to make the realization of the SDGs and an environmentally symbiotic society only empty words, we have to look back on our daily lives and choices from the perspective of biodiversity, and concretely raise our scientific and social literacy for nature.Furthermore, the students will be able to actually collect data and link it to conference presentations and paper writing.
"Biodiversity," which is often thought to be a distant issue, is actually a very familiar problem, and its future depends greatly on our lifestyle choices. By considering issues surrounding the natural environment from various viewpoints, this course will discuss the current state of human activities and the environment, the true meaning of sustainability, and consider an ideal social system.

Be interested in and research keywords such as SDGs/environmentally symbiotic society/sustainability/Anthropocene/green economy/energy/biodiversity on a daily basis. After each class, each student reviews on their own and presents what they have learned at the beginning of the following week's class.

「SDGｓ」「環境共生型社会」「人新世」といった言葉が政治経済の表舞台に登場するようになった。これらは環境をないがしろにしてきた経済活動への反省であり、人と自然の関係性に新たな模索が必要になったという共通認識にほかならない。そこで想起されている「自然」とは生物多様性に象徴される「生態系」のことだが、多くの現代人にとって自然は抽象的な存在である。SDGｓ、環境共生型社会の実現を“口先”だけのものにしないために、私たちの日々の暮らしやその選択を生物多様性の視点で振り返り、自然に対する科学的・社会的なリテラシーを具体的に高める。更に、実際にデータ収集を行い学会発表や論文執筆に結び付けることができる。

とかく縁遠いと思われがちな「生物多様性」は、じつはとても身近な問題であり、その未来は私たちの暮らしの選択に大きく左右される。自然環境を取り巻く課題をさまざまな角度から考察することで、人間活動と環境の現状、持続可能性の真の意味を議論し、理想的な社会システムのありようについて考察する。
