Through group reading of basic literature in the contemporary sociology of religion, students will consider the current state of religion and society. We expect doctoral students to achieve a higher level of achievement.
In the early days of sociology, religion represented a vanishing premodern order, and was therefore at the center of sociological interest. As a foundational subject, this class will examine how religion in modern society can be perceived sociologically through group reading and discussion. There will also be sessions where students will watch video materials.

現代的な宗教社会学の基礎文献の輪読を通じて、宗教と社会の現在について考察する。博士後期課程学生については、より高い達成水準を期待したい。

草創期の社会学では、宗教とは、消えゆく前近代の秩序を代表するものであり、それゆえに社会学の関心の中心にあった。このクラスでは、基礎科目として、現代社会における宗教を社会学的にどうとらえるのかということを、輪読やディスカッションによって検討する。映像資料を見る回も設ける。
