Continuing to the seminar in 2023 Autumn on philosopher Stanley Cavell on cinema and media, this course will examine Cavell's works with respect to media. At this time, the course will focus more closely on the aesthetic aspects. Through the works by Cavell, the important thought on cinema and media, this course will try to consider the experience of media.
After an introduction to the works of Cavell, we will consider some chapters from Must We Mean What We Say? as well as some writings treating specific films, including Pursuits of Happiness. The course will also consider some articles on Cavell by other scholars.

2023年度秋学期は映画の本質について十分に論じた哲学者スタンリー・カヴェルの著作を映画やメディアという論点に注目して論じたが、この授業では引き続き、カヴェルの哲学をメディアという観点から考える。ただし今回は美学的側面に焦点をあてる。映画やメディアにかんして重要な思索をおこなったカヴェルの著作をつうじて、メディアの経験について考えることがこの授業の目的である。

イントロダクションののち、Must We Mean What We Say?のいくつかの章を読み、Pursuits of Happinessを中心とした映画作品論を読解する。さらにCavellについて他の研究者が書いた論文も読む。
