What is art? The aim of this course is to fundamentally understand the possibilities of art. Based on this knowledge, students will explore how to emanate art without losing any of its power and also explore management skills for connecting art to society.
Art is sometimes seen as something useful to society—but is this in fact true? I believe that art can be the source of vague, inexplicable fears, even a dangerous medium at times, with the possibility of completely changing the world. This is why art has such an overwhelming power to show us new landscapes and drastically transform the stability of the world and humanity.
People lead their lives being jostled and entangled with objects and relationships in the world, as Heidegger’s notion of “being-in-the-world” suggests. However, the comfort that people have spent so long creating always contains the possibility of being overturned and broken. One possibility is through art. Could the administration, supervision, and management of art be self-contradictory? Is it really possible to truly connect art and society? I believe that this self-questioning is the core element of art management. This course will fundamentally reconsider art to help students develop a deeper understanding and will also examine the techniques for creating a path where art can emanate its power to the fullest.

アートとは何か。世界を刷新する可能性をも含む、アートの力をまずは原理的に理解する。その上で、アートの力を損なうことなく発出させ、人や時間など複雑な関係性のなかで、アートプロジェクトを操縦する（マネージメント）技術の習熟を目指します。

アートとは社会の役に立つものと考えられるときがありますが、本当にそうでしょうか。アートとはこの世界を刷新する可能性を秘めた、空恐ろしい、ときに危険なものでもあると私は考えます。だからこそ圧倒的な力で私たちに別の景色を見せ、世界や人間の安定をがらりと変えてしまう力を持つものです。ハイデガーに世界＝内＝存在という言葉がありますが、人間はこの世界の事物や関係性にもまれ、巻き込まれて生きています。しかし、人が長い時間をかけて作ってきたその居心地の良さは、転覆され、破られる可能性を常に秘めています。その可能性の一つにアートがあるでしょう。そのアートを管理、統括し、マネジメントするというのは、自己矛盾ではないのか。アートと社会を真に接続させることなどできるのか。この自問自答こそアート・マネジメントの根幹であると私は考えます。本講義では、アートというものを原理的に捉え直し、深く理解した上で、アートがその力をいかんなく発出する「道」を作る技術について考えます。
