Learn about applications and examples of data science in research and business. Acquire skills to analyze and make decisions based on quantitative evidence.
In this class, students will learn about data science methods and applications, as well as practice using data analysis tools. The objective is to acquire data analysis skills that can be used in research and business by covering a wide range of topics from the concept of data analysis to methods and practices of data collection, pre-processing, visualisation and analysis. This class focuses particularly on the analysis of structured data and assumes the use of Excel and R as the main analysis tools. However, in order to be accessible to those who are not familiar with statistics or programming, the lecture will explain the essentials of data analysis using examples from research and practice and simple processing in R, avoiding as much as possible the use of formulae or complicated programming.

データサイエンスを研究やビジネスに活用する方法と実例について学ぶ。また定量的なエビデンスをもとにした意思決定を行うための考え方を習得する。

本講義では、データサイエンスの手法と活用事例について学ぶとともに、データ分析ツールを用いた実践を行う。データ分析の考え方からデータの収集・前処理・可視化・分析の方法とその実践までを広く扱うことで、研究および修了後の実務に活かせるデータ分析スキルの習得を目指す。本講義では特に構造化データの分析に焦点を当て、分析ツールとして主にExcelとRを使用することを想定している。ただし統計学やプログラミングに馴染みがない場合でも理解しやすいよう、極力数式や複雑なプログラミングを用いず、研究や実務における事例やシンプルなRでの処理をもとにデータ分析の要点を解説する。
In this class, students will learn about data science methods and applications, as well as practice using data analysis tools. データ分析等に必要となるためPCを準備すること。なお分析には主にExcel、Rを用いることを想定している。
非構造化データを主に扱うデータサイエンス2もあわせて履修することを推奨する。
本科目は、5年以上の実務経験を有する実務家教員による授業であり、全授業回数の50％以上がディスカッションなど双方向形式の授業によって運営されます。
