社会デザイン研究科では、教室での対面授業を基本としながら、同時に遠隔地在住の学生の学びを保証するため、オンラインでも受講できる形で授業を行う。なお、履修者全員の了承が取れた場合には、「対面のみ」もしくは「オンラインのみ」で授業を行うこともある。 |
After the World war Ⅱ, as Japan experienced rapid economic growth, population influx intensified, particularly in urban areas. This led to overcrowding in cities and deteriorating living conditions.In response, the government expanded housing developments into suburban areas to create population buffers while formulating planned urban development strategies to prevent disorderly, unplanned sprawl.Entering the 21st century, the population began to decline nationwide, and vacant houses became increasingly noticeable.Population concentration in urban areas has led to depopulation in suburban and rural regions. In response to this situation, we must consider how to socially design new urban regeneration.
In this course, we will study the history of urban planning and development, building on the transformations in regional social structures, population dynamics, and consumer behavior from the latter half of the 20th century to the present, we will deepen our discussion on why urban planning that was rational in the 20th century no longer fits the realities of the 21st century. We will also explore what changes need to be made and how they should be implemented to ensure cities remain sustainable in the society ahead.

研究科の学事・行事（報告会、進学相談会等）と授業時間が重複した場合、その日の授業についてはオンデマンド講義となる場合がある。
本科目は授業回の全てにおいて、理論等学術的な知見を踏まえつつ、担当教員の実務家としての経験、または研究成果を活かし、教員と学生との双方向の討論を重視した実践的な授業とする。学生には、課題の発表や討論など、授業での積極的な参加を期待する。
戦後、高度経済成長するにつれて都市部を中心に人口流入が激化して、それにより都市は過密化し、住環境が劣悪な状態となった。これに対して行政は住宅団地などを都市郊外部に拡大開発して人口の受け皿をつくるとともに、無秩序・無計画な虫食い開発（スプロール）を避けるために計画管理的な都市計画を立案した。21世紀に入ると全国的に人口減少に転じ、空き家も目立つようになる。都市部への人口集中もあって、郊外・地方は過疎化してきた。こうした状況を受けて、いかにして新たな都市再生をどのように社会デザインしていくかを考える。

授業では、都市計画・都市開発の歴史を学ぶとともに、20世紀後半から現在に至るまでの地域社会構造・人口動態・消費者行動などの変容を前提に20世紀には合理的であった都市計画がなぜ21世紀の実情に合わなくなってたのか、そしてこれからの社会でも持続可能な都市であり続けるために、どこをどのように変革していけばよいのかについて議論を深めていく。
