This course aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the concept and approaches to capacity development, which is considered a process through which individuals, organizations, and societies enhance their abilities to achieve improved performance and promote sustainable development.
The concept of capacity development has evolved since the 1990s, becoming a cornerstone of international cooperation and initiatives. As many international organizations have adopted capacity development as a fundamental approach to their cooperation and initiatives, its implications and practices have expanded significantly. In this course, students will learn the comprehensive concept and practices of capacity development through various approaches and case studies from the United Nations agencies, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and other contexts.
