This course aims to acquire the basic knowledge needed to write a master’s thesis or conduct a research project in the field of Translation and Interpreting Studies (TIS). Students will conduct a preliminary investigation on a chosen topic using appropriate methodology and present the key findings at the end of the semester.
As a groundwork for writing a master’s thesis or carrying out a research project in TIS, the first half of the semester will be spent on learning from previous projects while receiving guidance from the instructor on how to conduct research. Students will utilize knowledge gained during this period to give an interim presentation outlining their research plan and the possible way forward. In the second half, students will carry out preliminary investigations and formulate research questions by discussing issues that arise during the process. At the end of the semester, students will share their findings and learning outcomes by giving the final presentation and submitting their final report.

通訳翻訳分野で修士論文や課題研究に取り組むにあたって必要となる基礎的知識を身につけ、自ら関心を持ったテーマについて適切な方法論に基づいた予備的調査を行い、成果を発表する。
This course aims to acquire the basic knowledge needed to write a master’s thesis or conduct a research project in the field of Translation and Interpreting Studies (TIS). Students will conduct a preliminary investigation on a chosen topic using appropriate methodology and present the key findings at the end of the semester.
通訳翻訳分野で修士論文を執筆または課題研究を実施するための土台作りとして、前半は、過去のプロジェクトを参考にしながら、研究への取り組み方を段階を追って学ぶ。これらの理解に基づき、中間発表では、自らの研究の構想を発表し、今後の研究の方向性を示す。後半は、実際に予備的調査を実施し、その中で出てきた課題についてディスカッションを交えながら考えを深める。学期末には、学びの成果を研究発表の形で共有するとともに、研究報告書にまとめて、修士論文・課題研究の本格実施に向けた道筋をつける。
