This course gives students the necessary knowledge and tools in order to complete a graduate thesis. Students will develop a research topic, learn research methods, acquire the writing skills required for a thesis, become critical readers of academic literature, and put all such skills into practice.
The course will cover the broad field of language education with specific reference to the teaching of language, the learning of language, and the role of motivation in teaching and learning. Students will develop their own areas of interests to explore, while gaining knowledge and experience in research methods. Students will be encouraged to attend lectures outside of class as well as present their understanding of material in class as they work on writing their thesis.

The course will be carried out via peer and instructor discussions. Generally speaking, students need to develop the ability to plan data collection and develop the understanding of how to analyze data. |
Study required outside of class will be determined in consultation with the instructor throughout the semester.
