In this course, you will study the global spread of English and its influence on Japanese society.
As outcomes of this course, master's course students can
1) have a deep understanding of global Englishes use for intercultural communication and related matters.
2) critically evaluate the global spread of English and its influence, and express your own ideas to other people.
This course examines how English has spread globally and how people have learned and used it in their respective contexts, from a Global Englishes perspective. Furthermore, it employs theories from critical applied linguistics to analyse in depth the relationship between English and globalisation. Finally, it applies these insights to understand the impact of internationalisation and the spread of English, particularly within Japanese society.

兼任講師のため、どのキャンパスにも研究室がない。そのためオフィスアワーで質問や研究について相談したい場合は、事前にメールで予約を取る必要がある。基本的に指導はZoomを通じて行われる。
本講義では、英語の世界的な広がりと日本社会におけるその影響について学習する。
本講義の学習成果として、修士課程の学生は以下の能力を身につけることを目的とする。
1) 国際共通語としての英語の使用とそれに関わる問題について深い知見を持つこと。
2) 国際的な英語の広がりとその影響について批判的に分析し、自らの見解や意見を述べることができること。
In this course, you will study the global spread of English and its influence on Japanese society.
As outcomes of this course, master's course students can

本講義では国際英語論の視点から、英語が世界的にどのように広がってきたか、また人々がそれぞれの文脈においてこれまでどのように英語を学び使用してきたかを考察する。さらに、批判的応用言語学に関連する理論を用いて、英語とグローバル化の関係を批判的に深く分析する。最後に、これらの知見を応用し、特に日本社会における国際化と英語普及の影響を理解する。
This course examines how English has spread globally and how people have learned and used it in their respective contexts, from a Global Englishes perspective.
